about

Zen Buddhism as a philosophical system is primarily concerned with a dialectical process between student and teacher intended to shock the student into the insight that much of their challenges and suffering in life are caused by clinging too strongly to unexamined conceptual assumptions. Flexibility of mental approach and the ability to focus intently on the inner workings of one's mind are valuable skills for jazz performers and educators. Dr. Josiah Boornazian discusses these topics in this lecture recorded live at the University of Utah on November 17, 2023 as part of their Fridays with Faculty series.
